Susan Beach is a senior litigator and was called to the B.C. Bar in 1992. She has almost 20 years of broad and various experience as a litigator in the B.C. Provincial Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. For the first 5 years she practiced criminal and employment law which took her to the Courtroom on a daily basis. Following that she started with the firm of Cox, Taylor in 1995 moving her practice to civil litigation. She became a partner in 2003. Her law practice included municipal law, employment law, commercial litigation, personal injury, health law, and general civil litigation. Her municipal law practice included handling of subdivision applications in and out of litigation, contaminated sites, heritage conservation site issues and challenges to bylaws. She was appointed Team Leader by the Attorney General to handle Ministry of Forests, Fire Protection Branch matters involving litigation for the recovery of wildfire suppression costs against large corporations and individuals. Her employment practice included employers ranging from to 10 to 4,000 employees and she also acted for employees in non-union settings. She has been involved in writing executive employment contracts and assisting with policy development, human rights matters, injunction applications and wrongful dismissals.
In 2008, Susan left private practice to join the Ministry of Finance, Risk Management Branch, primarily working within the Health Care Protection Program and Schools Protection Program practicing health law, personal injury and human rights. As a former Registered Nurse, she can provide an extensive background in the health area. She has had extensive experience in working with health authorities around the Province providing legal advice and assisting in handling of sensitive high-profile matters, medical malpractice, occupiers’ liability and public health care issues.
Susan has been qualified as an Arbitrator and has extensive experience with Mediations. She has also taken training to become a Mediator.
Susan has a family with two boys who are very active in sports. She has been involved in community soccer and hockey and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Boys United Football Club, and volunteers with the Victoria Minor Hockey Association.
