Michael Hargraves

Michael Hargraves is a member of our solicitor’s group. Called to the British Columbia Bar in 2005, Michael gained experience in corporate/commercial solicitor’s work as well as civil litigation prior to joining our firm in 2007. Since 2007, his practice has been focused on local government law.

Michael enjoys the variety of legal work that working with local governments presents. He assists in the interpretation and application of key legislation, and the drafting and interpretation of bylaws. He provides advice and assistance with respect to real property matters, including conveyancing, and the negotiation and drafting of agreements such as purchase contracts, leases, licences, rights of way, easements, and covenants. Michael‘s practice also includes planning and development work, and he routinely assists local governments with commercial agreements and procurement matters, including the drafting and interpretation of tendering documents. In addition, Michael assists with expropriations, and is a member of the British Columbia Expropriation Association.

Michael also enjoys the educational opportunities offered by the practice of local government law, not only teaching, but learning from clients as well. Michael is a regular contributor to the firm’s “LoGo” newsletter, and has taught client seminars on a number of topics, including municipal law, bylaw drafting, tendering, contracts, and construction law.
