Michael Hargraves is a partner in our solicitor’s group. Since joining Stewart McDannold Stuart in 2007, his practice has been focused on local government law.
Michael enjoys the variety of legal work that working with local governments presents. His practice includes general local government matters, such as the interpretation and application of key legislation, and the drafting and interpretation of bylaws. He provides advice and assistance with respect to real property matters, including conveyancing, expropriation, and the negotiation and drafting of agreements such as purchase contracts, leases, licences, rights of way, easements, and covenants. Michael‘s practice also includes planning and development work, and he routinely assists local governments with commercial agreements and procurement matters, including the drafting and interpretation of tendering documents.
Michael enjoys the educational opportunities offered by the practice of local government law, not only teaching, but learning from clients as well. He is a regular contributor to the firm’s “LoGo” newsletter, and gives presentations to local governments on numerous topics, including municipal law, bylaw drafting, tendering, contracts, and construction law. Michael also sits on the executive of the Municipal Law subsection of the Canadian Bar Association – British Columbia Branch.
