Staples McDannold Stewart grew out of a municipal law practice established
in 1975. In 1988, wishing to concentrate on local government and other
government clients only, the partners established a new firm. The
three partners and various associates conduct a province wide practice
acting for Regional Health Authorities and local governments as well
as contract work for various provincial government ministries and
crown corporations, including the Ministries of Municipal Affairs,
Highways, Attorney General, Health, B.C. Buildings Corporation and
B.C. Assessment Authority.
Our core areas of expertise are (1) public health law: advising the
Regional Health Authorities through the MHOs , EHOs, CLOs and their
staff and providing corporate law and real estate law services to
the Regional Health Authorities, and (2) local government law: covering
all of the activities of any local government corporation, from legislative
and policy functions to corporate activities, such as finance and
real estate, and to regulatory activities, including law enforcement.
In addition to provincial court and administrative tribunal work,
we also have extensive expertise in both plaintiff and defence representation
in the civil courts.
We have a solid background in public health law issues as a result
of our work for the Capital Regional District and local and regional
health authorities over the last 19 years.
