Lorena
Staples QC was called to the Ontario Bar in 1964 and was in general
practice there for two years. She started her municipal law career in
1966 at the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto in Ontario and has practiced
local government law in British Columbia since 1980. Her practice also
includes public health law. Her local government law background includes
partnership in private practice, chief solicitor of the law department
of a medium-sized Ontario city and associate in a large metropolitan municipal
law department. Her experience covers all aspects of solicitors
services and she has appeared before all levels of the court system, including
the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as a variety of administrative tribunals.
Lori also sat as a member of the Ontario Municipal Board, the senior administrative
tribunal in Ontario, which hears appeals on municipal matters. In addition,
as the municipal manager of a rapidly growing Ontario municipality, she
successfully facilitated, and obtained the cooperation of some 30 provincial
ministries and agencies for, the fast track approval of the planning and
development process for several major projects of provincial and municipal
importance.
